Seafood Catching on for the Holidays

(ARA) – With the holiday season fast approaching, the predictable dishes of turkey and ham aren’t far behind. How can you make your holiday meals and hors d’oeuvres stand out?

Instead of serving a humdrum spread, excite family and friends with seafood. Not everyone is aware, but the holidays are one of the most popular times of the year for seafood. This year, shrimp and tilapia stand out as two of the most exciting seafood items among consumers.

According to Nielsen industry data, December and January are the two biggest months of the year for frozen shrimp purchases, and tilapia is the fastest-growing species in the frozen fish category.

“It’s no wonder shrimp and tilapia are exploding in popularity,” says Judson Reis, vice president of marketing for Gorton’s, the nation’s leading frozen seafood brand. “Tilapia is a versatile, mild white fish that is low in fat and calories and high in protein. Shrimp also has a great nutritional profile and is a longtime favorite as a holiday appetizer or main dish.”

Gorton’s makes it easy to serve seafood for the holidays with an array of convenient tilapia and shrimp products that can all be prepared in less than 30 minutes.

Gorton’s new Breaded Five Star Tilapia Fillets -- 17.2-ounce packages of frozen, cooked Tilapia fillets that are coated with a crunchy golden breading – make a delicious meal. Gorton’s Five Star standards ensure each portion is white, flaky and hand-selected for leanness and mild flavor.
